A Film for Fallin Artists Chris Helson and Sarah Jackets have been working closely
with people from the The film was commissioned by Stirling
Council as an investigative artwork to explore the relationship between people
and place. Funded was provided by the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery,
Scottish Natural Heritage and the Council. In making the new artwork the artists have collaborated with twenty-one people from the village to make a series of twenty film scenes. The creation of each scene has been an event in itself, both personally to the individuals involved and on many occasions publicly to the village.
They began a year ago, making a series of short video pieces ‘being shown round’ the village by different local people. Following this early work they were able to establish a more intimate filmmaking process, exploring different stories and outside spaces in Fallin. Starting with a series of questions exploring dreams, places and memories, they then worked with each person or group to create a ‘set’ and film the scene.
Artist Chris Helson said:
"Fallin has at its heart a proud community, with a strong
historical, social and religious identity. In the context of change and
conflict, this sense of identity has been and continues to be built into the
landscape by the community. In making this new artwork we have looked to
understand and challenge this perceived sense of identity through an
exploration of the spaces within Fallin and peoples interaction with those
spaces" The documentation of the process of the
making of the artwork can be found in images, texts and videos at www.fallinfilm.com Further Information: info@fallinfilm.com or contact Tom Littlewood
